A Nigerian woman was killed and her body set on fire by an angry mob in Kaduna State, northwestern Nigeria, after being accused of attempting to abduct a child, in an incident that has sparked outrage across the country.
Local sources identified the victim as Malama Umulkhair, a teacher at an Islamic school and mother of five children. She was reportedly on her way to attend an Islamic lecture when she became separated from her companions and lost her way.
According to reports, she stopped to ask local children for directions, but was subsequently accused of attempting to kidnap a child, an allegation later disputed by witnesses and relatives.
The teacher was taken to a police station for questioning while angry residents gathered outside. Family members reportedly tried to convince the crowd that she was a respected educator and that the accusations were unfounded.
However, the mob stormed the police station, forcibly removed her, and subjected her to a brutal attack before burning her to death.
The incident has drawn widespread condemnation, with Amnesty International calling for a full investigation and accountability for those responsible.
