Taiwan’s Coast Guard said it deployed vessels to respond to a Chinese operation in waters east of the self-governed island, describing the move as a violation of international law.
In a statement, the Coast Guard said Chinese vessels were monitored throughout the operation and that Taiwan dispatched the necessary ships to respond appropriately to the situation.
The incident comes amid ongoing tensions between China and Taiwan, with Beijing increasing military and maritime activities around the island, which it claims as part of its territory, while Taiwan maintains its self-governance.
