U.S. President Donald Trump announced a temporary suspension of the so-called “Freedom Project,” aimed at assisting stranded vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.
In a post on his platform Truth Social early Wednesday, Trump said the decision was made at the request of Pakistan and other nations, as well as in light of what he described as significant military successes in operations against Iran.
He added that the move comes amid substantial progress toward reaching a comprehensive agreement with Iranian representatives, noting that the blockade will remain fully in place during the suspension period to assess the possibility of a final deal.
On Monday, Trump had announced the launch of the “Freedom Project” to help neutral countries’ ships pass through the strait amid ongoing regional tensions.
