UAE Closes Umm Al Quwain Beaches Following Oil Spill Along Emirate’s Coast

Authorities in the United Arab Emirates temporarily closed all beaches and coastal areas in the emirate of Umm Al Quwain after detecting marine pollution caused by an oil spill from a tanker.

The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment announced on Friday that its environmental monitoring and assessment system had detected an oil spill whose effects had reached the coastline of the northern emirate.

Specialized teams, working in coordination with local and federal authorities, began containment and cleanup operations, including isolating affected areas and conducting surveys to assess potential damage to the marine environment.

The incident comes amid growing concerns over maritime security in the Gulf following attacks on commercial vessels in recent weeks.
