The United Arab Emirates announced on Friday that a new mediation effort between Russia and Ukraine had successfully facilitated the exchange of 540 prisoners, with each side releasing 270 detainees.

The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the latest operation brought the total number of prisoners exchanged through Emirati mediation between the two countries to 8,537.

The ministry added that Abu Dhabi had successfully carried out 27 mediation efforts since the beginning of the war, reaffirming its commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at achieving a peaceful resolution to the conflict and alleviating its humanitarian consequences.

The ministry also expressed appreciation for the cooperation of Moscow and Kyiv in facilitating the exchange, emphasizing that the mediation reflects the UAE’s relations with both countries.
