The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said on Sunday that it received a distress call from a cargo vessel reporting an attack by unidentified armed individuals about 30 nautical miles southwest of Yemen’s port city of Hodeidah.
The agency said the incident occurred along a key shipping route in the Red Sea but did not provide further details regarding the attackers or the extent of any damage.
Last Wednesday, UKMTO also reported another maritime security incident about 76 nautical miles south of Balhaf in southeastern Yemen, after a ship’s security officer reported several small boats carrying armed individuals approaching the vessel.
