The Disaster Management and Relief Office in India’s northern state of Uttar Pradesh announced that a powerful storm accompanied by heavy rainfall has killed at least 89 people, in one of the worst severe weather waves to hit the state this season.

Authorities reported 53 injuries and damage to 87 homes, in addition to the death of 114 livestock animals due to storms and lightning strikes.

Storms are a recurring phenomenon in the state between March and June before the arrival of the monsoon season, which usually helps ease high temperatures and weather disturbances.
