War on Iran Expected to Dominate BRICS Foreign Ministers Meeting in New Delhi

The US-Israeli war on Iran is expected to overshadow the BRICS foreign ministers meeting set to begin Thursday in New Delhi and continue for two days, posing a major test for the bloc’s ability to reach a unified position and issue a joint statement.

The BRICS group originally included Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa before expanding over the years to include Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, and the United Arab Emirates.

Iran has called on India, which holds the BRICS presidency for 2026, to use the bloc as a platform to build consensus among member states in condemning what Tehran described as American and Israeli actions linked to the conflict.

The meetings are expected to feature intensive discussions on regional developments and the political and economic consequences of the war, amid possible differences among member states over the crisis.
