Report: Pentagon May Seek Additional $80 Billion to Cover Costs of Iran War

The Wall Street Journal, citing informed sources, reported that U.S. Deputy Defense Secretary Stephen Feinberg told lawmakers this week that the Department of Defense requires an additional $80 billion to cover costs related to the war with Iran, as well as other non-war expenditures.

According to the report, the administration is considering submitting a supplemental funding request to Congress in the coming days that would include additional Pentagon funding alongside non-defense priorities such as agricultural assistance and disaster relief programs.

The newspaper noted that Reuters was unable to independently verify the report, while neither the White House nor the Pentagon immediately commented on the matter.

A Pentagon official stated in April that the conflict with Iran had cost approximately $25 billion, marking the first official estimate of war-related expenses.

The overall financial burden of the conflict, which began in late February, remains a subject of debate in Congress, particularly after an earlier request for $200 billion in supplemental funding faced significant opposition from lawmakers.
