Switzerland strengthened its chances of reaching the Round of 16 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after securing a convincing 4-1 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina on Thursday in Group B action.
Johan Manzambi opened the scoring in the 74th minute before Ruben Vargas doubled Switzerland’s lead in the 84th minute. Manzambi added his second goal in the 90th minute, while Ermin Mehmić scored a late consolation goal for Bosnia and Herzegovina in the 90+3 minute. Granit Xhaka completed the scoring with a penalty in stoppage time.
The victory moved Switzerland to four points following its opening-round draw against Qatar, placing the team in a strong position ahead of the final group-stage match.
Bosnia and Herzegovina remains on one point after drawing with Canada in its opening fixture and now faces an uphill battle to advance.
