Iran’s national team has suffered a major setback after winger Ali Gholizadeh sustained an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear while playing for Lech Poznań, ruling him out for the rest of the season and casting doubt over his World Cup readiness.
The club confirmed that the player will undergo surgery followed by a lengthy rehabilitation period.
Despite war-related disruptions and the suspension of domestic competitions, the team continues its preparations, with FIFA confirming Iran’s participation alongside New Zealand, Belgium, and Egypt in the group stage.
