China’s state news agency Xinhua reported on Monday that Chinese and American authorities conducted a joint investigation that led to the arrest of five suspects and the seizure of narcotics in a drug trafficking and smuggling case.
According to the report, coordinated operations were carried out in the Chinese provinces of Liaoning and Guangdong, as well as in the U.S. states of Florida and Nevada, during early April.
The operation resulted in the arrest of two Chinese nationals and three Americans, the agency said.
The announcement comes just days before the expected visit of U.S. President Donald Trump to China, amid continuing political and trade tensions between the two countries.
Earlier in 2025, Trump imposed additional tariffs on Chinese goods, accusing Beijing of failing to curb the flow of chemical substances used in the production of fentanyl into the United States.
