U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Sunday that an announcement regarding a possible agreement with Iran could be made later in the day, noting that negotiations have made significant progress.

Speaking to reporters in New Delhi during his visit to India, Rubio said there was “a chance the world could receive good news in the next few hours.”

He explained that the expected agreement could ease U.S. concerns over the Strait of Hormuz, which Iran effectively closed in response to the recent U.S.-Israeli attack.

Rubio added that the potential deal could mark the beginning of “a process that ultimately leads to a world no longer worried about an Iranian nuclear weapon,” emphasizing that this remains a key objective for President Donald Trump.

On Saturday, Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform that negotiations had “come a long way,” pending a final formula between the United States, Iran, and several other parties.

However, the anticipated agreement quickly faced criticism from prominent Trump allies, including Senator Ted Cruz and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.
