Iran Moves Its 2026 World Cup Base to Mexico for Security and Logistical Reasons

The Iranian Football Federation announced that the national team’s headquarters during the 2026 FIFA World Cup will be relocated from the United States to the Mexican city of Tijuana, following approval from FIFA, according to federation president Mehdi Taj.

Taj explained that the decision came after discussions with the organizing committee and meetings with FIFA officials amid security concerns linked to regional tensions and visa-related difficulties.

Iran is scheduled to face New Zealand, Belgium, and Egypt in Group G during the tournament hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
