The U.S. Department of Defense on Tuesday revealed further details of President Donald Trump’s proposed $1.5 trillion defense budget for fiscal year 2027, marking the largest annual increase since World War II.
Officials said the budget introduces a new category called “presidential priorities,” covering the “Golden Dome” missile defense system, counter-drone capabilities, artificial intelligence, data infrastructure, and the defense industrial base.
In shipbuilding, the proposal allocates more than $65 billion to procure 18 warships and 16 support vessels under the “Golden Fleet” initiative—the largest such request since 1962.
Defense spending surpassed $1 trillion for the first time last year after supplemental funding was added to the base budget.
