Russia Marks ‘Victory Day’ Amid Tight Security and Absence of Heavy Weapons

Russia commemorated the 81st anniversary of the Soviet victory over Nazi Germany with a military parade in Moscow’s Red Square attended by President Vladimir Putin and several foreign leaders, amid tight security measures and the absence of heavy military equipment for the first time in years.

The celebrations included units fighting in Ukraine alongside North Korean soldiers, while military parades in border regions were canceled for security reasons.

The occasion coincided with a temporary truce announced by Moscow and a prisoner exchange between Russia and Ukraine under American mediation.
