Nine people were killed and 13 others injured on Wednesday in a school shooting in southern Turkey’s Kahramanmaraş province, carried out by a 13-year-old student, officials said.
Interior Minister Mustafa Şiftçi confirmed the death toll, adding that six of the injured are in intensive care, including three in critical condition.
Governor Makram Onlur said the student brought weapons believed to belong to his father in his bag, entered two classrooms, and opened fire randomly.
Reports indicated that some students attempted to escape by jumping from windows during the attack, which marks the second school shooting in Turkey within two days.
Such incidents are rare in Turkey, amplifying the shock and concern surrounding the tragedy.
