Infantino Defends High World Cup 2026 Ticket Prices Amid Fan Backlash

FIFA President Gianni Infantino on Friday defended the high prices of tickets for the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, amid growing fan dissatisfaction.

According to L’Équipe, Infantino said that “the main, and so far the only, source of FIFA’s revenue is the World Cup,” noting that most income is generated within a single month.

“We earn our revenue in one month, and for the other 47 months until the next World Cup, we spend that money,” he added.

Infantino also argued that higher prices are natural given strong demand, revealing that FIFA has received around 150 million ticket requests.

The issue comes as fans face multiple challenges, including ticket prices reaching several thousand dollars, technical issues on booking platforms, and rising associated costs such as parking.
