A source familiar with the investigation said on Monday that a 27-year-old man suspected of planning a violent attack and seeking to join داعش in Syria or Mozambique had allegedly intended to target a museum in Paris and Jewish people, without identifying a specific target.
French newspaper Le Monde reported that the suspect, who was arrested on Thursday, had attempted to target the Louvre Museum as well as Jewish residents in a district of Paris.
The case has renewed concerns over security vulnerabilities surrounding major landmarks in the French capital, particularly the Louvre, which remains the most visited museum in the world.
Security concerns around the museum were also highlighted last October after thieves escaped with jewelry reportedly worth around 102 million dollars.
