Drone attacks targeted five power stations across Sudan on Monday, causing widespread electricity outages, according to a government official.
The official said the attacks struck two power stations in Gedaref State and two others in Gezira State, while a fifth station in White Nile State sustained damage. All three states are under the control of the Sudanese army.
The attacks come amid a deepening economic crisis, with the local currency reportedly losing more than 25% of its value in recent weeks.
The United Nations has warned that attacks on energy infrastructure threaten essential services and healthcare facilities at a time when approximately 20 million people are suffering from hunger.
