Democratic criticism of U.S. President Donald Trump over the war in Iran has intensified, extending to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth amid accusations of supporting policies that could amount to war crimes.
Democrats have warned against Trump’s threats to target Iranian infrastructure, describing the rhetoric as a dangerous escalation.
In this context, Democratic Representative Yassamin Ansari—the only member of Congress of Iranian descent—announced plans to seek Hegseth’s removal from office, accusing him of complicity.
“Trump is escalating a devastating and unlawful war, threatening large-scale war crimes and targeting civilian infrastructure in Iran. In just the past 48 hours, the rhetoric has crossed every red line. Pete Hegseth is complicit,” Ansari said.
The developments highlight growing political divisions داخل the United States over the conduct of the war and its legal and humanitarian implications.
