Ghana Appoints Carlos Queiroz as Head Coach Ahead of World Cup 2026

The Ghana Football Association announced on Monday the appointment of Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz as head coach of the national team for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Queiroz recently parted ways with Oman after failing to qualify for the tournament following a loss in the Asian playoffs.

Ghana also decided to part ways with Otto Addo just 72 days before the World Cup, after friendly defeats against Austria and Germany in March.

In an official statement, the federation said its executive council, in coordination with key stakeholders, approved Queiroz’s appointment.

The 73-year-old former Real Madrid coach will be making his fifth consecutive World Cup appearance, having previously led Portugal in 2010 and Iran in the 2014, 2018, and 2022 editions.
