Relations between Poland and Ukraine appear set for increased tension after Kyrylo Budanov, head of the Ukrainian president’s office, announced that he would relinquish a Polish state decoration in protest against Polish President Karol Nawrocki’s decision to revoke Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s Order of the White Eagle.

The dispute stems from disagreements over commemorations related to the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA), which has been accused of carrying out massacres against Polish civilians during World War II.

Ukrainian officials described the move as a strategic mistake that could benefit Russian interests.
