Iran on Monday denied that any talks with the United States had been scheduled in Doha, despite the presence of delegations from both countries in the Qatari capital this week.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said a technical Iranian delegation would travel to Qatar this week, stressing that the visit “has no connection with the visit of U.S. officials” to Doha.
In a statement, Baghaei added that Tehran has not begun negotiations on a final agreement, noting that such talks require the prior implementation of certain provisions of the memorandum of understanding, which he described as Iran’s current priority.
Earlier on Monday, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that a meeting with Iran would take place in Doha on Tuesday without providing further details.
The White House said U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner would participate in the discussions, alongside technical talks on implementing the memorandum of understanding. The meetings are expected to focus on the management of the Strait of Hormuz and efforts to reduce regional tensions.
