The GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences reported on Monday, May 4, 2026, that a magnitude 6 earthquake struck the Samar region in the Philippines.
According to the center, the earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers, making it a relatively shallow quake that could have stronger surface impacts.
The PHIVOLCS warned that damage is possible and that aftershocks are expected in the coming hours or days.
