Portugal advanced to the Round of 16 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after coming from behind to defeat Croatia 2-1 in a dramatic match on Thursday in Toronto.
Ivan Perišić gave Croatia the lead in the 53rd minute before Cristiano Ronaldo equalized from the penalty spot in the 68th minute, taking his tally to three goals in the current tournament and 11 goals across his World Cup career.
Substitute Gonçalo Ramos scored a stoppage-time winner to send Portugal through, while a Croatian goal by Joško Gvardiol was ruled out for offside following a VAR review. Portugal will face Spain in the Round of 16.
