Tehran announced the establishment of the “Persian Gulf Strait Authority” to oversee ship traffic through the Strait of Hormuz and impose fees on commercial vessels crossing the strategic waterway.

Iran’s Supreme National Security Council stated that ships would be required to submit detailed information and obtain prior authorization before passage.

The move comes amid escalating tensions with the United States and stalled negotiations between the two sides.
