Tenerife Player’s Death Linked to Chest Injury in Preliminary Autopsy

A preliminary autopsy report indicated that a chest injury sustained by Tenerife footballer Jesús de Miguel was consistent with the cause of his death following a collision with Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono.

The incident occurred in the 97th minute of Monday’s Spanish second-division match while both players contested the ball. The goalkeeper was sent off, and the match, tied 2–2, was suspended.

Further laboratory examinations remain pending to establish the circumstances of the 30-year-old player’s death.

Judicial authorities authorized the transfer of his body to mainland Spain for burial.
